Kansas library law (KSA 75-2550) provides that areas outside an established public library tax district are taxed for library services under a regional system of cooperating libraries. The South Central Kansas Library System provides grants and services to cooperating member public, academic, public school district and special libraries in Barber, Butler, Cowley, Harper, Harvey, Kingman, McPherson, Reno, Rice, Sedgwick, Stafford and Sumner counties.
The following county maps illustrate areas within a public library tax district and areas within the SCKLS regional library system tax district. Mill levy rates for each public library tax unit and the SCKLS regional library system tax unit are compiled by each county and available at the Kansas Department of Administration, Municipal Services website: http://www.admin.ks.gov/offices/chief-financial-officer/municipal-services/county-tax-levy-sheets To determine whether an individual parcel of property is within a public library taxing district or the regional library system taxing district please contact your county clerk’s office.
