Current Homepage Image: “Lucky” Cottonwood Tree
Popularly known as the “Lucky”, “Wishing”, and “Honking” tree, the central photographic image for the South Central Kansas Library System (SCKLS) website is a landmark to thousands of travelers who drive by, honk or wave for good luck! The photograph, taken by SCKLS Technology Consultant Sharon Barnes, shows the 100-year-old tree which is located on K-96 State Fair Highway between Wichita and South Hutchinson (37.81848248914253, -97.50939095958837). Not only is the cottonwood the official tree of the State of Kansas, but “Lucky” Cottonwood Tree has its own rich history for the south central region. For more information, read:
