Home MenuSCKLS Internet Bandwidth Policy
SCKLS member libraries have autonomous decision-making authority and SCKLS does not mandate bandwidth requirements. SCKLS does utilize various methods based on experience with member libraries of similar size, technology requirements set by product and software vendors and other factors that help to determine our bandwidth recommendations for individual SCKLS member libraries.
While SCKLS does not mandate bandwidth requirements, SCKLS can only provide support service to member libraries when adequate bandwidth is available. In some instances, SCKLS may be unable to provide technology support due to inadequate bandwidth at a member library. In such circumstances SCKLS will provide the library with consultation and a written recommendation for adequate bandwidth.
Bandwidth consumption from Microsoft Windows updates, Wi-Fi, gaming, video and audio streaming, hosted automation, VOIP (voice over IP) telephone, and typical web and e-mail usage has increased the need for increased Internet bandwidth.
SCKLS recognizes that adequate bandwidth packages may not be available locally and may be cost prohibitive. Member libraries are responsible for determining which ISP’s (Internet Service Providers) are available, including connectivity options, speeds, and associated costs. All associated upgrade costs are the sole responsibility of the member library.
Questions regarding this policy should be directed to one of the following SCKLS staff:
- SCKLS Director of Information Technology
- SCKLS Automation and Technology Services Coordinator
